Chapter Fifteen
Each day it felt as though I had to renew my battle to resist the charms of Adam Kline. It had become increasingly difficult to separate my emotions from our business arrangement.
And despite winning some of the battles, I started to have doubts about my ability to win the war. Adam seemed to have a way of getting past my defenses and I wasnât sure how much longer I could hold out against him.
Ellieâs suggestion to have a fun fling became more and more tempting as I continued to be around him on a daily basis. It became an ever present thought swimming around in my head, creeping up at the most inopportune times.
Finding a way to be closer to him was an idea that had started to become more appealing. The potential to deepen our emotional connection, and the physical one, was there constantly.
If it was just a physical attraction, I might have felt more confident in my ability to withstand him, but my attraction to him had started to creep past the physical. I actually liked spending time with him.
I liked talking to him about the things we had going on in our lives. He was always asking for updates about Booked and how the beta testing was going. His interest was so genuine and unexpected that I wasnât sure how to handle it.
Then there was the fact that he seemed to appreciate my awkward sense of dry humor. Everything about him was unexpected. Who would have thought the famous dimpled quarterback with thousands of adoring fans would be so down to earth and kind.
It would have been easier to ignore if Adam was disinterested. Then I could just tell myself that it was all in my head and it wouldnât ever amount to anything. But I had trouble convincing myself of that when I constantly caught Adamâs eyes on me at the gym.
His hungry gaze seemed to seek me out no matter where I was or what I was doing. Just as mine did with him. Somehow our gazes just naturally drifted towards each other and I had a feeling he would definitely be okay with adding a little more physical contact into our fake relationship.
On one hand it was nice to know I wasnât the only one who seemed to be fighting my attraction on a daily basis, but it also made it more challenging to maintain my resistance when it seemed as though defeat was inevitable.
An unexpected benefit was that my level of fitness had never been higher. All the pent up sexual tension that radiated between us needed an outlet and thankfully the gym was well equipped. Our trainers would probably cry tears of joy the next time they saw us because we were approaching our workouts with a new vigor that only seemed to increase by the day.
Even Adamâs teammates could no longer keep up with him. Most of them were usually long gone by the time he and I left the gym utterly exhausted.
